Amaryllis Flower

On January 6, a week ago yesterday, our daughter-in-law Jenny had surgery on her left foot. She was told by the doctor before the surgery that she was going to have to stay off her foot for at least 2 weeks, so even if she didn't have 3 kids and a husband, that was going to be a problem. Solution: Nancy nurse arrives in Birmingham the day before the surgery planning to stay until Jenny gets back on her feet...so to speak. Right now it looks like she'll be returning home next Friday.

So, I was given a "to-do" list before Nancy left. At the top of the list was an amaryllis bulb given to Nancy at Christmas by her friend Terri that, if properly cared for, would grow and flower while Nancy was in Birmingham. As proof of it's proper care, I took a progress picture each morning, which Nancy was able to see on her cell phone. As you can see, I did a pretty good job of remembering to sufficiently water the plant and move it into the sunshine as needed.

By the way, Jenny is recovering nicely and has expressed her gratitude on numerous occasions for her private nurse and all-around helper. And, as for me, well I haven't had to sit through a movie on the Hallmark channel for more than a week. What more could I possibly ask for?
